Who We Are

Top-Rated Fire-Rated Experts

Two “firefighters” with decades of on-the-ground, in-the-field experience. At the core of Fire Rated Product Specialties are the Fire Rated Product Specialists: Jim Heisel and John Feges. Together these pros have spent 20+ years building FRPS into a highly-regarded leader in the industry. We are a company that believes in honesty, integrity, and a no-games approach to business.

Our products are critical to the safety and well-being of the humans who occupy these spaces, the firefighters who may enter these spaces, and the bottom lines of those who own/operate these spaces. We do not take that responsibility lightly.

Jim Heisel

Jim hates grey — more to the point — Jim hates grey areas. He has no time for ambiguity, doubletalk, or bull. His approach to family, work, and life is straightforward and honest.

Jim runs the administrative, finance, and operational side of FRPS. While his work ethic is second to none, he doesn’t view what he does as “work” (although, he will require a paycheck). Owning and running a business is a journey that feels natural and instinctive.

His father told him, “Nobody said it would be easy.” The same father who had three jobs in the fourth grade (one being running moonshine during prohibition), all while being passed around the country from family member to family member. So, Jim comes from hardy stock.

John and Jim partnered on a project 20-some years ago and recognized a mutual interest in passive fire protection and more importantly, a mutual distaste for grey.

John Feges

John may have been pandering to the audience when answering, “fire extinguisher,” to the question, “Your home is on fire, what would you grab?” But as it turns out, John’s practical side and his commitment to passive fire protection (in this case “aggressive fire protection) are authentic and passionate.

John handles the technical, architectural, and product development areas of FRPS. His practical, problem-solving DNA drives his interactions with architects, engineers, and building professionals.

His passionate side motivates his actions behind compliance and the push for safer, more reliable fire protection. John went to work early mowing lawns – $3 for the front and $5 for the back. His grandfather imparted qualities that he has lived his life by: Show up early. Stay late. Firm handshake. Eye contact. Manners. And don’t let ‘em see you sweat.

And John’s final point to the home fire question was to close all interior doors in order to contain our imaginary blaze. Always thinking. Well done, John.
